In Conversation: Using AR to connect to and within communities
This session focuses on using augmented reality to connect communities and each other. It looks at how we can critically unpack new technologies (in particular AR) and use them to tell meaningful stories relevant to communities.
This session will be lead by Sid Dobrin who works within writing studies at the University of Florida, but whose research focuses on three distinct but overlapping subjects: the ecological properties of writing; eco-criticism and eco-composition, including questions of oceanic criticism; and the relationship between writing and emerging technologies, including questions of contemporary digital and visual/screen culture. Dobrin is also Director of the Trace Innovation Initiative, a research hub that studies emerging writing technologies such as Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) applications, comic forms as scholarship, writing ecology, and other cool stuff. Dobrin has been named a Digital Thought Leader by Adobe. This session will be facilitated by Associate Professor Clare Dyson from Swinburne University of Technology.

In Conversation: Maker Spaces, the role of the analogue in the digital
This session focuses on maker-spaces within a university context and the role that analogue plays in the digital world. The session includes presentations from international thought leaders Holly K. Johnson, Thomas James Ferrill and Anthony Lee Sams from the University of Utah and Simone Taffe from Swinburne University of Technology. Following the presentations is an open discussion to share ideas, perspectives and be part of a global conversation.

In Conversation: Impact of Anti-racist pedagogy
This session focuses on the importance of anti-racist pedagogy in making sense of our world with perspectives from the US and Australia. We were joined by Victoria Robinson, Director American Cultures Centre and lecturer of Comparative Ethnic Studies at UC Berkeley, Ryan Ikeda who writes about antiracism in higher and secondary education and also works at the American Cultures Centre at UC Berkeley, and Emma Gavin, a Garrwa Aboriginal woman and a Lecturer of Indigenous Studies within the Department of Social Sciences at Swinburne University of Technology.
